Donald H. Winkelmes

Donald H. Winkelmes, age 94, of Westwood, MA, passed away on August 15, 2023 at home with his devoted family after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary McLellan Winkelmes, his children Mary-Ann Winkelmes of Arlington and Donald H. Winkelmes, Jr. of Westwood, his grandchild Oliver Hamilton, and 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Mary (Mayernik) Winkelmes, his sisters Elizabeth and Mary Winkelmes of Erie, PA, his brother Henry Winkelmes and nephew Henry Winkelmes, Jr., both of Zanesville, OH.

Born and raised in Erie, PA, Don was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII who served in a medical unit in Italy.  He was a gifted teacher of golf who instructed thousands of students of all ages.  He was a Life Member Century of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. Don was a talented wood carver and sculptor.  He was a memorable storyteller who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday August 29th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood, followed by Interment in New Westwood Cemetery.
