Dennis Michael CRONIN

CRONIN, Dennis Michael Jr., 90, of Westwood, MA., and Pocasset, MA., died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 21. Born and raised in Auburndale, Dennis lived in Westwood for 56 years. A graduate of Newton High School, Dennis was awarded degrees from Boston College ('53), Harvard Law School ('56), and Boston University Masters of Taxation ('70). He also served in the United States Army.

Dennis practiced law in his hometown of Newton with his father, Dennis Cronin Sr. His time spent with Cronin & Cronin Counsellors at Law was one of his most memorable and rewarding professional accomplishments. In 1964, Dennis began a 33-year career with Scudder, Stevens & Clark, an investment counsel firm where he provided tax and estate planning service. After retirement, Dennis continued to pursue and to enjoy the practice of law as a legal consultant for Boston Financial Data Services.

Dennis was a well-respected, and active member and leader of the Westwood civic, educational and sports communities.

In the early years, the Cronin family enjoyed spending summers in the Wenaumet Bluffs neighborhood of Pocasset on Cape Cod. Dennis fondly recalled sitting on the front porch of "Crosshaven," his family's cherished cottage, with his father, mother, and brother. In his later years, he loved having all his children and grandchildren join him at the Cape. Crosshaven remains in the family today, eight decades and several generations later.

An avid sailor, Dennis was a fixture at the Wenaumet Bluffs' weekend sailboat races, skippering the "Scrapper" with his children as crewmates.
Dennis was an active Boston College alumnus, serving on class organizations, annual giving committees and enjoying travels with his BC classmates. An avid Eagles sports fan, Dennis had football season tickets for more than 50 years.

Dennis was the loving husband of Priscilla (Bradford) Cronin. Dennis and Priscilla were an inseparable couple, devoted to their Catholic faith and to their children and families.

Kind and generous, Dennis always saw the good in people.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents Dennis Cronin Sr. and Irene McCarthy Cronin, and his brother John. Dennis is survived by Priscilla, his children Cathleen (Edward) O'Sullivan of Naples, FL, Dennis (Mariah) Cronin of Duxbury, MA, Elisabeth (Kenneth) Murphy of Westwood, MA, and William Cronin of Auburndale, MA; Grandchildren Caralyne (Dale), Michael (Dana), Matthew (Catie), Catherine, Michael, Mia, Matthew, Connor; Great-Grandchildren Molly, Miles and Teddy. Also survived by sister-in-law Elizabeth Cronin; Nephew John and Niece Julie.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood on Monday, July 25th from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning, July 26th at 10 a.m. in St. Denis Church, 157 Washington St., Westwood.
