STRACK, Dean A.
Of Westwood, age 86, passed away on January 12, 2021. Devoted husband of Roberta (Wipperman) for over 60 years and loving father to Amy (Mingels) and her husband Bradley of Scituate, MA, and Phillip and his wife Karen of North Reading, MA. Cherished grandfather to Brian Mingels of West Kingston, RI and Andrew Mingels of Scituate, MA. Also survived by brothers Frank and Fred, and sisters Frances and Rose; pre-deceased by brothers Bernard, Edmund, and Robert, and sister Theresa.
Dean graduated from Northeastern University with a B.A. in English and Journalism and initially worked as an educator and football coach. With a natural ability for strategy and sound business practice, Dean migrated into the corporate world, rising to senior executive level in a number of technology companies and continued to consult throughout his corporate career. In retirement, Dean volunteered with the AARP and the IRS to prepare tax returns at senior centers in eastern Massachusetts; he was the rare taxman that people were happy to see.
With a quick wit and a wry smile, always mixed-in with a dash of mischief and a wise-crack, Dean could bring a smile to the saddest and make those around him just feel good. Ever-the-optimist, he always looked forward to brighter days and carried that with him throughout his life.
Dedicated to always helping others, Dean was a devoted family man, loyal friend, ally, confidante, and stand-in Dad to whoever needed it. He donated his body to science for the UMASS Medical School, helping to address current medical challenges and passing on his goodwill to a future generation; a fitting legacy for a lifetime of service.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no services at this time; family and friends will have a celebration of Dean's life at a happier time in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org), or simply do something nice for someone, as he would always do.
