David Recht, age 72, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024 at his home in Norfolk, MA after a two-year battle with cancer.
Dave was born on May 16, 1951 in Cedarburg, WI to Robert and Harriet (Hadler) Recht. He grew up in the Milwaukee area where he attended The University School of Milwaukee (1969). As a youth, he excelled in school and sports, playing football, hockey and baseball. Later in life, all things golf became his passion. He loved to play the game and, upon his retirement in 2017, became a volunteer rules official for the Massachusetts Golf Association.
Dave graduated from Lake Forest College in 1973 and followed graduation with a job in the Lake Forest Admissions office. He then moved to the Boston area where he earned his MBA from Boston University in 1979. Dave married his college sweetheart, Marion Lind Savage (Lindy), on September 1, 1979. He then embarked on a 38-year career with a number of firms in the field of Direct Marketing, spending his last 17 years as a Vice President at Jet Mail Services, from which he retired in 2017.
Dave and Lindy’s love of golf led them to become long-time members of the Dedham Country and Polo Club. Throughout their married life, Dave and Lindy enjoyed playing golf together at both the Dedham Club and the Ausable Club in upstate NY where they summered with family. Dave always enjoyed golf in the Adirondacks, sharing many great rounds with family and friends. While there he also enjoyed taking daily trips to the local rivers and the Keene Valley airport to throw sticks and balls with his beloved yellow labs.
Dave was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Martha Virden. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lindy, sons Peter and Charlie, grandchildren David and Millie, brother Phillip (Ellen) Recht, aunt Audrey Hadler, in-laws, John Virden, Janie (Steve) Riley, Peggy (Ken) Brownell, Tom (Patty) Savage, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will take place at a time yet to be determined, and Dave will be laid to rest in a private family service in Princeton, NJ. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, gifts in Dave’s memory be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, to support cancer research and patient care (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or via dana-farber.org/gift), OR to the charity of your choice.
