Darryl James Lung, D.M.D.

July 8, 1959 — January 4, 2025

Westwood, MA

Dr. Darryl James Lung, D.M.D., 65, of Westwood, MA, passed away on January 4, 2025.

Son of the late Harvey and Helen Lung, he was born on July 8, 1959, in Honolulu, HI. Darryl was the beloved husband of Lisa and loving father of Ava, Ethan, and Maile. He is also survived by his brother Harvey Lung and his wife Carolyn Nomura, his brother Kyle Lung, his sister Kim Lung and her wife Lisa Bauduin, his sister Dana Lung and her husband Thomas Stevens, and his nieces and nephew Erin, Ian, Elena, and Olivia.

Darryl was a proud graduate of Punahou School in Honolulu, HI where he enjoyed playing varsity volleyball and varsity basketball. He continued to play varsity volleyball at Santa Clara University where he graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Combined Sciences. He then received his DMD degree in 1986 and his certificate in the specialty field of Prosthodontics in 1988, both from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Thereafter, he remained at Tufts as a full-time Assistant Professor for eight years, responsible for the clinical development of third and fourth year students. In all, he taught 32 years, giving back to his specialty field and alma mater. Simultaneously, he was a proud partner at Miller Lung Dental Group where he practiced since 1997. He was a member of the American College of Prosthodontics, the American Dental Association, and the Massachusetts Dental Society. In his profession, like all of his endeavors, Darryl was passionate about excellence and constantly pursued perfection.

Darryl was a lifelong sports enthusiast and quickly became an avid Boston sports fan. He passed on his love of sports to his children by coaching youth soccer and basketball. He later became their most dedicated fan, always prioritizing their competitions and games. Even at the age of 65, he was a fierce competitor for his three children during their backyard 2v2 basketball or pickleball games and their most beloved coach, concocting and running lacrosse and soccer drills during the summer months. Darryl was faithful to his Sunday morning routine which consisted of reading the paper and cooking his famous Sunday breakfast for his family and their friends. Additionally, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his friends, embracing the cultures and cuisines discovered on his travels, learning about history, and sharing such passions through his quips and carefully crafted trivia questions. Darryl’s commanding presence, love for life, compassion for others, and endless wisdom will be profoundly missed and forever cherished by those who love him.

Visiting hours will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood, MA on Tuesday, January 14 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the same location on Wednesday, January 15 at 10:30 AM.
