Cynthia L. (Bowley) Harrington, 67 of Walpole, MA, passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of her family on Monday, October 6th after a courageous 10-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Cindy is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Ronald, their three children Meghan Murray and her husband Douglas of Foxboro, Thomas Harrington and his wife Meghan of Mansfield, and Mary Kate Adams and her husband Spenser of West Roxbury. She is also survived by her 6 most cherished grandsons- Declan, Liam, Rory, Keegan, James, and Jack. She faced her illness with quiet strength and grace, determined to see each of her children marry the love of their lives and to witness the joy of each of them becoming parents. She is now reunited in heaven with their eldest daughter, the late Caitlin Anne Harrington.
Born February 24, 1958, in Miami, Fl. to the late James and Jacqueline (Murphy) Bowley. Raised in Billerica, Cindy was the eldest of four children. She is survived by her three brothers and their wives, Jim and Ann of Melbourne, Fl., Glenn and Sue of Chelmsford, and Gary and Maureen of Pepperell. She is also survived by many incredible brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends all of whom adored her.
She loved her time spent in Wellfleet, where her perfect day consisted of reading a good book on Newcomb Hollow Beach, continued with a single Corona Light at the Pearl, and ended with a spirited game of Yahtzee or Rummikub. A natural planner, Cindy loved coordinating all celebrations no matter how big or small and organizing unforgettable family trips to Maine, Ireland, Prince Edward Island, Bermuda, and beyond. She found passion and pride through her work at Ursuline Academy, enjoyed her time gardening, taking walks with Ron and their dog, Seamus, and most importantly spending time with her family. Always putting others before herself, Cindy was the most thoughtful, generous, and loving soul.
Loved by many as a friend, sister, and aunt, her proudest roles were those of wife, Mom, and Nana. She was the best Nana who adored her grandchildren and poured endless love into her family with every embrace, conversation, and words of encouragement. Cindy will be missed dearly but her legacy of kindness, joy, and graceful strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High Street, Westwood on Monday October 13th from 3-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Church on Tuesday morning October 14th at 10am. Following the Mass, interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the care she received through the Mass General Cancer Center. Please, in lieu of flowers, Cindy’s family would greatly appreciate a donation in her memory to the Brigham and Women’s NICU in honor of her grandson Keegan, or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org. Please honor her memory with an act of kindness and take a moment to see the world as Cindy saw it- with warmth, compassion, and an open heart.
