Dr. Charles Thomas Reynolds of Westwood, Massachusetts, died Sunday, November 13. He was 81.
Born on January 12, 1930, to Thomas Michael Reynolds and Anna Fitzgerald Reynolds, Charley graduated from Noble and Greenough School in Dedham in 1947 and received his bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1951. After graduating from Boston University Medical School in 1957, he became a surgeon and served on the staffs of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, the New England Baptist Hospital, and the Deaconess Hospital. A lifelong student, Dr. Reynolds received a Masters in Business Administration from Babson College in 1979 and a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University in 1990. He took delight in being an old-school surgeon dedicated to his patients' specific healthcare needs and their overall well-being.
Dr. Reynolds loved Shakespeare and the Marx Brothers with equal passion. A resident of Westwood for more than 35 years, he served on the Board of Health and the Westwood Auxiliary Police and was a member of the Sharon Fish & Game Club.
A devoted husband to his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Clifford Reynolds, Charley was a proud and loving father to Christopher Hume Reynolds and his wife Helene Bredt Handy of Wayland, Laura Stone Hathaway Reynolds of Newton, and Jenny Orme Reynolds and her partner Kerry Joyce Polk of Austin, Texas. He was thrilled to be the grandfather of Hiram Clifford Reynolds and Henry Truman Reynolds of Wayland. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Nancy R. and Dr. Peter Beck of Portsmouth, N.H., and his sister Janet R. Crandlemire of York, Maine.
A memorial service will be held December 19 at 2pm at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Wellesley, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Church or to Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Mass.
