Charles A. Mathys

Charles “Charlie” Mathys, of Westwood, MA died February 24^th, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of the late Marjorie L. “Marge” Mathys for 64 years. Loving father of Charles Mathys (Susan) of Scottsdale, AZ, Stephen Mathys (Nancy) of Plymouth, MA who predeceased him and Julie Robartes (Jay) of Medfield, MA. Cherished grandfather of Laura (Daniel Jones), Amy and Kelley Mathys and Daniel, Erin, Andrew and Hayley Robartes, great grandfather of Natalie Jones and brother of the late Jean Mathys. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Charlie was born in Belgium on April 4^th, 1927 and emigrated with his family to the U.S. and was aboard the S.S. Excalibur during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He attended Assumption High School and then graduated from Northeastern University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War Era and later received an MBA from Boston College. Charlie spent his career working as an electrical engineer, mostly at IBM and Mitre Corp. After retiring Charlie filled his days with family and friends and was an inventor working on many projects of interest to him, including electric boats. He was the author of several books, loved to travel, spend time at the beach and always took a daily walk. Charlie was giving of his time and loved by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood on Thursday morning March 2^nd from 9am – 10:30am. Following the Visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood at 11am. Interment with Military Honors at New Westwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to the Pan-Mass Challenge.
