Charles J. Fox

Charles J. Fox of Waltham, and longtime resident of Dover, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2019. He was the husband for 59 years to Janice Judge Fox and father to MT, Paul, and Charles, and his wife Michelle Doyle Fox. He was the grandfather to Hallie, McKenzie, Patrice, and Blaire of Newburyport. He is the beloved brother Marie Fox of West Roxbury and the late John Fox. Charles was born July 19, 1935 to his parents John and Marie Fox of West Roxbury.

A proud graduate of The Boston Latin School, Boston College, and Babson, MBA, Charles was a Ouimet Scholar who dedicated much of his life to the Ouimet Fund. He served as a U.S. naval officer and went on to be a CPA, an executive in the printing and insurance industries, and a professor of Accounting at Boston College. Passionate about helping children and students, Charlie dedicated his life to creating opportunities and mentoring students through his engagement with charity and time as a professor. He was a founder of the program, Read Your Way to Fenway.

Charles' lifetime involvement in charities include the Archdiocese of Boston, the American Ireland Fund, the Boston Public Library, Black and White Boston Coming Together, and unwavering service to the Francis Ouimet Fund, including the position of president. His love for the game of golf began at age nine, in 1944, when he became a caddy at Charles River Country Club. He thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf, and his best days were spent playing with friends and family at Charles River Country Club, where he also served for years, including a term as president. He cared deeply and enjoyed life fully. He will be remembered for his leadership, compassion, engaging humor, and loyal friendship.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the Most Precious Blood Church, 30 Centre St., Dover, on Saturday, June 1, at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., (off Route 109) Westwood, on Friday, May 31, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Interment private.
