Charles Eugene Aries

Charles Eugene Aries, having realized his dream of celebrating his 100th birthday on September 17, 2021, Charles, a man of faith, peacefully entered into eternal life on September 23, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Charlie was the son of Joseph and Mary Aries. He was married for 31 years to the late Mildred (Tedeschi) Aries, mother of his children, and to the late Genevieve (Best) Aries for 26 years. Charlie was pre-deceased by his dear son Steven and sister Caroline. Born and raised in Dorchester, Charlie settled in Newton where he raised his family. Following his marriage to Genevieve, Charlie moved to Centerville then spent his final 10 years residing in Westwood. He served his country in the Army Air Corps. A graduate of Wentworth Institute, Charlie worked as a machinist for Pickard & Burns and Spears Associates. Charlie was the beloved father of six children: Carolyn Anderson; Susan Hartshorn (Jack); Christine Nelligan (Bob); Kenneth Aries (Susan); the late Steven Aries (Linda) and Paul Aries (Jennifer). He was also the beloved stepfather of Pamela Best, Kenneth Best (Gwen) and Peter Best. Papa Charlie adored and was adored by his 22 grandchildren and 25 greatgrandchildren. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to Charlie and his family will always treasure memories of gatherings to celebrate holidays, birthdays or weddings or to make the ravioli for the Christmas Eve celebration. Charlie had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved and respected by all who knew him. His favorite activities were playing Mah Jong, cribbage and poker and socializing with fellow residents of Highland Glen, whom he referred to as "the kids." Charlie's was a life well lived. He left a legacy of love and he will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood on Tuesday Sept. 28th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning Sept. 29th at 11am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Road, Wellesley. Interment with Military Honors at St. Mary Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlies' memory to The Friends of the Council on Aging, 60 Nahatan St, Westwood, MA 02090 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
