SMITH, Bruce Emerson , beloved family member, friend, and longtime resident of Westwood and Norwood, MA died peacefully on January 21, 2017. Beloved son of the late Barton P. Smith, M.D. and Jane (Campbell) Smith, he was born on February 3, 1959 in Boston, MA. Bruce was the loving brother of Heather S. Collins of Hingham, Holly L. Smith of Wakefield, RI, Martha B. McManamy of Newburyport, and Christopher H. Smith, M.D. of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by loving brothers-and sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
Bruce graduated from Westwood High School in 1980. For many years, he was employed in the food service industry where he was well respected and frequently recognized for his positive attitude, reliability and pride in his accomplishments at work. Bruce was supported by the Lifeworks residential, individual support and employment divisions as well as by the Arc of South Norfolk as an employee and then as a member of the Day Hab program, where he made many lifelong friends.
Bruce enjoyed a full, active and engaged life that included sports, travel, work and many memorable visits with his siblings, nieces and nephews. Active in Arc events, including Our Club, basketball, bowling, Special Olympics and art classes, among other interests, he also served as assistant manager and a loyal fan of the Walpole High School Rebels Football program for 25 years.
