EAST FALMOUTH - Barbara A. (Jones) Currie, 84, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in Newton, MA.

Barbara was born to parents B.J. and Hazel (Gest) Jones on February 21, 1932 in Richmond, Texas. She attended East Chambers High School in Winnie, Texas, where she was on the East Chambers Buccaneers basketball team that won the 1947 High School Girls Basketball League of Texas championship. She attended Sam Houston State College and went on become a certified legal assistant. She worked for several law firms in Beaumont and Dallas, Texas before retiring on Cape Cod. Barbara was an avid bridge player.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Bert James Hargraves of Hankamer, TX, Lee Hargraves and wife Linda Phalen of Framingham, MA, and Lyndon Hargraves and wife Paula Hargraves of Huntsville, TX; her sister, Lynda Gulley of Providence, RI; along with six grandchildren, Beth Hargraves, Lesley Hargraves, Krystal Marie Hargraves-Boyd, Jessica Hargraves, Erik Hargraves, and Emma Hargraves; and three great grandchildren, Makaila, Emily, and Logan.

Services and interment will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please contribute to your local Samaritans 24-hour suicide prevention center. Barbara was devoted to The Samaritans on Cape Cod, where she was a volunteer and facilitated replacement of the familiar signs posted at the Bourne and Sagamore bridges.
