Emblem

Arthur Stephen Lynch of Walpole, formerly of Westwood, Roxbury, West Roxbury, and Barrington, RI, passed away on May 19th, surrounded by his loving family. Arthur leaves behind his three children: Erin Saluti (Bronxville, NY), Jonathan Lynch (Brooklyn, NY), and Elizabeth DiGregorio (Medfield, MA); his five grandchildren: Nicholas and Catherine Saluti, and Claire, Matthew, and William DiGregorio; his sons-in-law, Joseph Saluti and Michael DiGregorio; and a legion of devoted friends. He was predeceased in 2018 by his wife of 50 years, Christine Ripley Lynch.

Arthur was born on April 5th, 1945, in Boston, the second child of the late Dorothy (Donahue) and Arthur John Lynch. He was raised in Roxbury and later West Roxbury, alongside his late sister, Mary Alice. He attended St. Patrick’s School, followed by Cathedral High School, and served as an altar boy at St. Patrick’s Church.

In 1968, Arthur received a degree from Boston State College, where he studied history. Upon graduation, he married his college sweetheart, Christine, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church in Chestnut Hill, and enlisted in the Army. The newlyweds relocated to Washington, D.C., while Arthur served as a clerk at the Pentagon. His first child, a daughter, Erin, was born in 1970. The new family returned to Boston when Arthur was discharged. A son, Jonathan "Jon," arrived in 1975, and a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth," in 1976.

Arthur began his career in the medical device industry as a salesman at Davis and Geck, later rising to National Salesman of the Year at Valley Lab. The bulk of his career was spent as a partner and director of sales at Medical Parameters, Inc., where he co-invented a patented catheter guidewire advancement system. This widely adopted innovation enabled safer, more efficient, single-handed insertion of catheter guidewires while preserving sterility.

Arthur and Christine raised their family in Westwood, where he contributed his time and talent to youth sports. A lifelong athlete and sports enthusiast, his truest devotion was to hockey.

Arthur coached youth hockey in Westwood for many years and was instrumental in establishing the Westwood High School girls’ hockey program in 1992, where he coached his daughter, Beth. Arthur continued to play well into his 50s with his beloved men’s league at Boston College. In addition, he was an ardent (if often exasperated) golfer and a popular figure at Walpole Country Club.

His affinity for history translated into a fascination with genealogy. Arthur made multiple research trips to Ireland, documenting generations of ancestors. Additionally, he had a keen appreciation for antique furniture, but particularly antique clocks, which he collected with enthusiasm.

Throughout his life, Arthur was a volunteer and supporter of several charities. He donated his time to The Home for Little Wanderers and relished serving as reunion chair for his class at Cathedral High School. He had a special fondness for the Carmelite nuns of Roxbury, whom he delighted in befriending over the years.

Arthur found great joy in traveling the world with family and friends, though his heart remained in New England, anchored by boyhood summers in Maine. In 2002, Arthur and Christine retired to Barrington, RI, to be closer to the coast he loved. In his final years, Arthur was lovingly cared for at New Pond Village in Walpole.

A spectacular father and grandfather, his children and grandchildren were the light of his life.
