Alphonsus John Commane (77) of Westwood passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loving family on May 19th after a brief illness. He was born in Co Clare, Ireland on July 26, 1940 to the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Moran) Commane. An Irish immigrant, he graduated from Wentworth College in May of 1964, with a degree in Landscape Design, and went on to marry the love of his life Margaret "Peggy" Brennan of Brookline. He was an Irish gentleman with pure Irish charm and wit and had the gift of true hospitality. A hard-working, lifelong entrepreneur, he successfully ran his own landscaping company for over fifty years, and his love for working outdoors was only dwarfed by his love and adoration of his family.
He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Peggy; his four devoted children: Mindy Crowley of Norwood, Rose Galley of Westwood, Karen and Jay Davis of Foxborough, and Alphonsus Commane Jr of Westwood; ten grandchildren: Michaela Quixote, Ryan Harding-Commane, Aileen Smith, Darragh O'Halloran, Sabina Crowley, Ashleigh Galley, Ciara Davis, Aisling Davis, Brenna Davis, and Liam Commane; as well as three adoring great grandchildren, eight siblings, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood, on Thursday, May 24, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 25, at 10:00am in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood. Interment New Westwood, Cemetery.
