BEALE, Allan S.
Of Hingham, formerly of Walpole, Westwood and Stoughton, entered eternal life on Tuesday, November 1 in his 95th year.
Devoted husband of the late Barbara (Twombly) with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. Beloved father of Elizabeth 'Betsy' Clifford and her husband Robert of Hingham, Nancy Sisson and her husband William of Atlanta and the late Richard Beale. Father-in-law of James Bross of Atlanta and AFS father of Toshio Tsuneyuki of Japan. Dear grandfather of Andrea Clifford and her husband James Cox, Joanna Magoon and her husband Bruce, Jennifer Geraghty and her husband Kevin, Jack Bross, Liesl Bross and her husband David Carlton, Katherine Kissingford and her husband John, and Benjamin Clifford. Proud great-grandfather of Liz, Nick, Emily, Molly, Brendan, Miranda, Lily and Nate. He will be missed by several dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graduate of Bentley School of Accounting, he continued his education through prodigious reading and courses at Dartmouth, Cornell and Harvard. After a career in banking, Allan retired as President of the Savings Bank Life Insurance Council of Massachusetts. A keen birder and committed naturalist, he served on the boards and on the ground at Hale Reservation and the Charles River Watershed Association. He and his wife welcomed many visitors from other countries to their home, and made friends across the country and around the world through Elderhostel. Allan contributed his skills at chess and mentoring to the West Roxbury VA Hospital and the Westwood High School chess team; drove patients under treatment to Boston hospitals through Westwood FISH; was a staunch supporter of the Westwood Historical Society, an original member of St. Margaret Mary Parish and a longtime Trustee of the Westwood Public Library. Allan and Barbara were proud recipients of the Westwood Quarter-Century Award for their service to the community. Family members wish to express deep appreciation to the staff of Renaissance Gardens at Linden Ponds for their exceptional care and kindness.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 12 at 11 a.m. in St. Albert the Great Church, 1130 Washington St. (Route 53) Weymouth. A Reception, to which all are warmly invited, will be held thereafter at Renaissance Gardens at Linden Ponds, one mile south of the church on Route 53. Interment will occur at a later date.
