Alfred Paul Smith

August 22, 1966 — June 6, 2025

Westwood, MA

On June 6th, 2025, Alfred P. Smith, aged 58, passed away in Brighton MA. He was a loving father, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his son, Thomas Smith; his eight siblings; and his fifteen nephews and nieces, who will all miss him dearly.

Al was born in Newton but moved to Westwood MA in fourth grade with the rest of his siblings. The youngest of nine, he was seen following around his older siblings, and he loved them fiercely. His greatest source of pride was always his family, and he would constantly boast about the achievements of his siblings and attend the sporting events of his nieces and nephews. He also took care of his aging mother until her recent death. Above all, Al’s love for his son was unmatched. He bragged to anybody who would listen about his son’s football games and tennis matches. After his son Tom joined the Army, Al kept everyone apprised with news of his promotions and achievements. Anyone who saw how Al looked at his son knew how much he adored him.

From a neighbor and his uncle, he learned his trade as a finishing carpenter, and in his final years, he worked for his brother at the Newton Clay Courts, monitoring and maintaining them. He took great pride in his work, and quickly endeared himself to many of the members, who speak well of him to this day.

Al had a rebellious heart and a mischievous smile, and although he fought hard, he loved even harder. As a child, he was a hockey goalie and continued to love the Bruins well into his adult years. He was an avid Boston sports fan, and his booming laugh and accented slang is still ringing in the ears of those who love him. Al loved the outdoors and rode a dirt bike when he was younger. He also loved fishing and camping.
