A. Francis Hilbrunner

HILBRUNNER – A. Francis, of Westwood, (BC High 1932, BC 1936), formerly of West Roxbury, age 95, died November 27, 2009. Beloved husband of late Dorothy H. (Sullivan). Loving father of Ronald J. and his wife Kathleen of Walpole, their sons Kevin F. and wife Lynn of Sanbornton, NH and Keith J. and his wife, Jeanette of Attleboro. Daughter Jeanne M. (Hilbrunner) Gallahue and her husband Donald of Milford, and their daughter Nichole K. of Arlington, VA. Son Robert F. Hilbrunner of Florida. Daughter Joan D. (Hilbrunner) and her husband the late Stephen Gerlach of Florida, her children Alie Beal and her husband Kraig of Brockton, Sherri Schuberth and her husband Eric of Wrentham, and Michael Wagner of Mansfield. Brother of Marie J. Hilbrunner of West Roxbury and the late Anne (Hilbrunner) Griffith of TX. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren. Frank was an honorary member of BC’s Order of Golden Eagles, oldest alum of BC High, Class of 1932, and graduate of Boston College 1936. At the age of 24 he started working at the N.E. Telephone Company, retiring in 1972 as Plant Staff Supervisor. His participation and service under the Office of Scientific Research and Development, through the National Defense Research Committee, was critical in developing top secret radio communications during WWII, at the MIT Radiation Lab. Frank was active in Amateur Radio (WIJDO), as a member of Framingham Amateur Radio Assoc., he enthusiastically coordinated “Fox Hunts”, and was a life member of the Minuteman Repeater Assoc. (MMRA). Frank was also very active in town government, and the MA State Democratic Committee. Frank was a “gentleman”, and shared his wealth of knowledge helping others. Referred to as “the smartest man in Westwood”, everyone could depend on Frank to fix the “problem” if they had one. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Holden-Dunn-Lawler Funereal Home, 55 High Rock St. (off Route 109) Westwood, on Monday, Nov. 30th from 4-8pm.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St Margaret Mary Church on Tuesday, Dec 1st at 10am, Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Frank’s memory to The Catholic Charitable Bureau of the Archdiocese of Boston, Inc., 51 Sleeper St. Boston, MA 02110. The family is grateful to all those who cared for him.
